A Way of Escape

January 13, 2026 Van Burch

1 CORINTHIANS 10:13 (NKJV)

… but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Many of you know, my mother transitioned March 2, 2024. Before this date I would tell people close to me if anything ever happened to my mother to keep an eye on me because I’m going to go crazy! Seemingly out of nowhere my mom fell sick. One day she was her normal busy self, next day she wasn’t. She became so ill, I prayed to God to just take her. And you know what? He did. And I was happy He did.

I was tempted to question God’s plan for my mother: “Why take the good people, Lord? Why allow your faithful servant to fall ill?” But God prepared me for a way to escape the temptation. He allowed my mother to become sick so I wouldn’t go crazy when she transitioned but instead rejoice and be able to bear it. And I want you to know that God has given you a way to escape your temptation. God has already prepared you and He knows what you can bear. You may not realize it now, but you’re stronger than you think you are. You can face the temptation in front of you because Jesus has made a way for you to bear it and be better because of it.

Never more than you can handle

Heavenly Father, You know just how much I can bear. And if You allow me to be tempted it’s because You have given me a way of escape. Thank You for strengthening me. Thank You for trusting me. And thank You for Your faithfulness.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.
