The Right Thing To Do

It is the LORD your God you must follow, and Him you must revere. Keep His commands and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him.
— DEUTERONOMY 13:4 (NIV)

On September 6, 2018, a Dallas police officer shot and killed a man in his apartment after mistaking him for a burglar. Moments after the shooting, the police officer realized she was in the wrong apartment. Fast forward to October 2, 2019 the former police officer is found guilty of murder and sentence to prison. At her sentencing, the brother of the murdered man expressed his forgiveness for her killing his unarmed, innocent sibling. He suggested that the former office find Christ. He hugged her.

The actions of this man have not gone unnoticed. He’s experienced criticism, passed judgment on and has been called many things – except right. I must admit to you, I would not have been able to do the same thing he was courageous enough to do. And while my flesh won’t allow me to totally agree with him, my spirit tells me it was the right thing to do. Do you find fault is Jesus asking God to forgive His murderers while He hung on the cross? Isn’t this exactly what Christ asks of you and me? To forgive. The world will tell you that this man was wrong, he’s crazy, he should not forgive the former officer that killed his brother, but it is the Lord your God you must follow, and Him you must revere. Keep His commands and obey Him. It is only when you serve God and hold fast to Him you will be able to do the right thing and not conform to the ways of the world.

Forgive one another…
